Carolina Mejía launches youth political command for 2028 presidential bid

Carolina Mejía, a presidential aspirant for the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), has officially launched and sworn in the National Youth Command of her political project. During a large-scale event at the Club San Carlos in Santo Domingo, Mejía swore in 32 provincial youth campaign commands, aiming to organize and mobilize young voters ahead of the 2028 elections.

Mejía emphasized her commitment to involving young people in future government decision-making, stating, “I do not come to make promises, I come to make a commitment.” She proposed a government model described as “human and close,” balanced with “discipline and a firm hand.”

Fernando Lagares, known as “El Barahonero,” has been appointed as the national coordinator for the youth wing. His role involves establishing provincial, municipal, and constituency committees across the country to channel the needs of new generations into the political platform. The campaign leadership noted that the youth demographic represents a significant portion of the electorate, accounting for approximately 37.62% of the voter registry.
