PRO calls for higher pension fees in Sweden
The Swedish pensioners' organization PRO has issued a formal response to the Pension Expenditure Inquiry report, rejecting the conclusion that pension level targets are being met. PRO argues that raising the retirement age to compensate for low pensions is the wrong approach.
Instead, the organization proposes increasing the pension fee to 18.5 percent. This measure is intended to benefit both current and future retirees. PRO asserts that the public pension should represent at least 60 percent of previous income after a full working life, noting that current projections suggest a compensation rate of only 51-53 percent for median earners starting in 2026.
PRO chairperson Åsa Lindestam criticized the inquiry for including occupational pensions in its assessments. She stated that the public pension is the state's responsibility and that relying on occupational pensions is misleading, as they are not guaranteed for all workers. The organization maintains that current retirees should share in any improvements to the system.
