Pro Consumidor returns RD$4,000 million to Dominican consumers

The National Institute for Consumer Protection (Pro Consumidor) in the Dominican Republic has returned RD$4,000 million to citizens over the last five years. These funds were recovered through claims filed against providers of goods and services.

Under the leadership of Eddy Alcántara, the amount returned through conciliation agreements reportedly equals six times the total amount restituted since the institution's inception. The annual recovery rate has seen a significant increase, rising from approximately RD$700 million in previous administrations to RD$2,000 million during the first two years of the current management.

Primary causes for consumer complaints include disputes in the real estate sector—specifically regarding the purchase of homes off-plan—as well as issues with appliances, vehicles, service contract breaches, warranties, and improper charges.
