Pro Vita and Family Day protest Veneto end-of-life law in Verona

Pro Vita and Family Day organized a sit-in in Verona's Piazza Bra to protest a recent end-of-life law approved in the Veneto region on September 2. Demonstrators used empty wheelchairs and signs to represent the elderly, disabled, and fragile citizens they claim are being denied adequate care.

Spokesperson Maria Rachele Ruiu of Pro Vita and Famiglia called for Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to instruct the State Advocate to challenge the law before the Constitutional Court. Protesters argued that the legislation is unconstitutional and inhumane, noting that many patients in Italy and Veneto lack access to necessary palliative care.

The groups expressed concern that the law facilitates medically assisted suicide, drawing comparisons to trends in Canada, Belgium, and the Netherlands. They urged the government to act before the November 9 deadline for filing legal appeals.
