Probishtip family faces administrative crisis over deceased newborn
A family from Probishtip is facing renewed distress following an administrative error involving their deceased newborn. The infant, born prematurely at a Skopje clinic on June 26, 2026, weighing 450 grams, passed away three days later on June 29.
Nearly a month after the death, the Administration for the Keeping of Civil Registries contacted the Inter-municipal Center for Social Work in Probishtip, requesting the official assignment of a personal name for the child. Under recent amendments to the Law on Civil Registration, if parents do not assign a name within a specific timeframe, the competent social work center must do so officially.
The parents reported that no one informed them of the need to complete additional administrative procedures or name the child following the death. They were subsequently notified that there could be legal consequences for failing to complete the process on time, highlighting a significant communication gap between health, registry, and social services.
