Procedures for updating or replacing national identity documents

In Spain, individuals who have acquired Spanish nationality must transition from a NIE (Foreigner Identification Number) to a DNI (National Identity Document). This process requires an in-person appointment with the National Police. Necessary documentation includes a literal birth certificate issued within the last six months, a recent color photograph, a certificate of census registration (empadronamiento) issued within the last three months, and the existing TIE or EU citizen registration certificate.

In Peru, the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (Reniec) allows citizens to request a duplicate DNI online if the original is lost or stolen. Following a loss or theft, it is recommended to report the incident to the National Police of Peru. The online application process for both electronic and standard DNI versions requires a fee payment, which can be completed through various banking channels or digital platforms before selecting an authorized agency for document collection.
