Procida police apprehend 13-year-old in elderly fraud scheme

In Procida, Italian Carabinieri have identified a 13-year-old boy allegedly involved in a fraud scheme targeting an elderly woman. The scam involved individuals impersonating law enforcement officers via telephone.

According to investigators, the perpetrators claimed a bank robbery had just occurred and convinced the 83-year-old victim that she needed to present her jewelry and cash to prove her innocence regarding a supposed vehicle sighting on security cameras.

Officers encountered the boy alone and, upon inspecting his backpack, discovered 1,550 euros in cash and various pieces of jewelry. This discovery led authorities to link him to the reported fraud.
