Consumer protection agencies (Procon) across several Brazilian cities have released price surveys revealing significant variations in the cost of basic food items.

In Campo Grande, a survey of coffee prices showed disparities of up to 88.24% between establishments, with certain brands costing nearly double in different locations. In João Pessoa, the variation was even more extreme, with cornmeal (cuscuz) prices fluctuating by over 251%. Other significant differences were noted in milk powder, soybean oil, and rice.

In Maceió, the monthly survey of the basic food basket showed that while the total basket cost varied by only 3.17% between the highest and lowest priced stores, individual items like bananas saw price differences of 133.78%. In Três Lagoas, a survey focused on meat prices provided comparative data for beef, chicken, and pork to assist consumers.

In the metropolitan region of João Pessoa, a study on wheat products found a 107.76% variation in the price of whole wheat French bread. These agencies emphasize that comparing prices and brands is essential for families to manage their budgets and achieve financial stability.
