Procon in Cuiabá uncovers expired goods and other violations during Check‑list operation

The municipal consumer protection agency (Procon) in Cuiabá launched the "Check‑list" operation on 29 July, inspecting 25 retail outlets that sell perishable items. Inspectors found that about ten stores were selling products past their expiration dates, and one food shop had roughly 20 expired items seized. Other breaches included missing price tags, absence of the Consumer Defense Code display, and an expired sanitary permit.

Procon officials delivered copies of the Consumer Defense Code to the offending businesses and provided guidance on correcting the issues. Deputy secretary Mariana Almeida Borges emphasized that the operation aims to safeguard consumers and improve access to required information while also exercising the agency’s enforcement powers. The inspections will continue throughout the current and following week across commercial centers in the capital.
