Procon-JP fines fuel station in Valentina neighborhood, shuts gasoline pump

On July 31, 2026 the Municipal Consumer Protection and Defense Secretariat (Procon‑JP) carried out a routine inspection of a fuel station in the Valentina neighbourhood of João Pessoa. Inspectors found that the gasoline pump was delivering fuel at a flow rate above the legal limit and temporarily interdicted the pump while issuing an auto de infração.

The inspection was part of the "Operação Combustível Seguro" and also covered the station’s convenience store, checking that consumer‑information signs, the display of the Procon‑JP number, and a copy of the Consumer Defense Code were in compliance. Products for sale were examined for valid expiration dates and the station’s operating licence with Sudema was verified.

According to Secretary Junior Pires, the agency will keep inspectors on the streets whenever consumer complaints arise. The station faces possible fines and, depending on the severity, a temporary suspension of activities. It has ten days from receipt of the notice to file a defence.
