Procon-MPMG inspection flags fuel station violations in Itabira, Brazil

The Ministry of Public's consumer protection agency (Procon-MPMG) conducted a sweep of 36 fuel stations across five municipalities in Minas Gerais between July 21 and 23, resulting in 15 citations and three temporary shut‑downs of fuel dispensers for quantity shortfalls. The operation highlighted widespread issues such as expired operating permits, dirty flow meters and missing price information.

In Itabira, four stations were inspected; two were cited after officials found that each was delivering less fuel than indicated on the pump. A nozzle at each of these stations was placed under precautionary interdiction. Inspectors also noted that the stations provided incorrect data on the ethanol‑to‑gasoline price percentage, a key metric used by consumers to compare fuel costs. The agency did not disclose the names of the stations involved.
