Procter & Gamble study suggests frequent hair washing improves scalp health
A study conducted by Procter & Gamble involving over 1,500 participants suggests that washing hair five or six times per week may be beneficial for many individuals. The research indicates that more frequent washing is associated with better hair appearance and fewer scalp issues, such as itching, dandruff, or irritation.
Contrary to the common belief that frequent washing weakens hair or increases oiliness, the study highlights that the scalp is skin that produces oil, sweat, and accumulates dirt and dead cells. When these substances remain on the scalp for too long, they can cause discomfort. However, the ideal frequency remains dependent on individual hair types and scalp conditions.
