Procuraduría files charges against Itagüí prison officials
The Procuraduría General de la Nación has filed disciplinary charges against six officials from the National Penitentiary and Prison Institute (Inpec) regarding irregularities at the La Paz high and medium security prison complex in Itagüí, Antioquia.
The charges stem from a vallenato musical performance held inside the facility on April 8, which included singer Nelson Velásquez. Investigators are looking into alleged omissions in logs and reports concerning the entry and exit of individuals, as well as the specific circumstances that allowed the musical group to enter and remain on the premises.
The six officials facing charges include acting director Fabián Leandro León Rodríguez, along with Heyler Antonio Fracica Sarmiento, Fredy Antonio Ciprián Díaz, chief inspector Salvador del Cristo Jiménez Palencia, inspector Eduardo Parra Ceballes, and dragoneante Juan Diego Ospina Morales. The oversight body has classified the attributed behaviors as extremely serious and committed with intent (dolo).
