PRODEL workers threaten strike over wage dispute in Angola

Workers at the Empresa de Produção de Electricidade (PRODEL) in Angola are threatening industrial action following a breakdown in negotiations regarding salary adjustments and working conditions.

The primary dispute involves a significant gap in wage demands: employees are seeking a 75% increase, while the company administration has proposed a 25% update to the base salary. Additional demands include improvements to health insurance and the provision of subsidies for production, risk, and noise pollution.

In response to union efforts to organize worker assemblies, PRODEL's Human Resources department issued a statement asserting that while they respect union roles, assemblies must adhere to specific legal interpretations regarding timing and location. Despite the tension and growing mobilization of staff at company facilities, union representatives stated they remain open to dialogue and are awaiting a formal response to their list of demands.
