Prodrive and WRC Promoter discuss potential return to rally championship

WRC Promoter executives, including CEO Éric Boullier and COO Julien Vial, recently met with Prodrive leader David Richards at the company’s headquarters to discuss a potential return to the World Rally Championship (WRC).

Prodrive has a significant history in the sport, having dominated the mid-1990s with Subaru, securing three consecutive manufacturer titles from 1995 to 1997 and driver championships for Colin McRae, Richard Burns, and Petter Solberg. After Subaru's departure in 2008, Prodrive briefly returned with a Mini program before being absent from the top flight since 2012.

David Richards stated that while he is keen to see the Banbury-based firm return to the championship, the company requires assurance regarding the promoter’s strategic approach and the availability of strong investment. Richards noted that Prodrive has already completed technical assessments of new regulations and understands the necessary costs for a return.
