Producers contest road funds in Argentina as Uruguay debates urban project
In Argentina, agricultural producers and the Sociedad Rural in Colón are questioning the allocation of road tax funds. Representative Pablo Torres Barthe noted that while approximately $929 million was collected via the road network tax in 2025, supplemented by $125 million from the provincial fund, municipal reports indicate zero pesos were allocated specifically for road infrastructure in 2024 and 2025. Producers are seeking full accountability through the Tribunal de Cuentas to understand how these resources were utilized, citing that poor road conditions impact essential services like education, healthcare, and emergency response.
In Uruguay, the Frente Amplio caucus in Colonia has requested a meeting with President Yamandú Orsi regarding the ‘+Colonia’ urban development project. The request follows reports of a meeting between Orsi and representatives of the investment group Praxis during the UN General Assembly in New York. The caucus is currently studying the economic, social, and territorial implications of the Praxis proposal and has not yet declared a formal position on the project.
