Productivity and mindset strategies for managing professional workloads

Recent publications offer strategies for managing professional workloads and improving workplace mindset.

In “Escaping from the State of Always Being Busy,” author Jun Ishida suggests using behavioral science management to reduce the feeling of being overwhelmed. Key techniques include prioritizing tasks and explicitly deciding not to perform the bottom three items on a To-Do list to alleviate mental pressure. Ishida also advises using AI not to increase personal output, but as a tool to identify tasks that can be eliminated. He references Elon Musk’s “The Algorithm” at Tesla and SpaceX, which emphasizes questioning whether any given task is truly necessary before attempting to optimize it.

Additionally, Masayasu Iba’s book, “People Who Lose and Gain in Work and Relationships,” focuses on psychological approaches to productivity. Iba suggests that successful individuals move away from making decisions based on fleeting moods and instead focus on the underlying purpose of their tasks. He encourages shifting the perception of work from a mandatory “work” mindset to a “play” mindset, where tasks are viewed as challenges to be mastered or improved through personal ingenuity.
