Proença-a-Nova hosts Plangaio and Maranho Festival

The Plangaio and Maranho Festival returns to Sobreira Formosa, in the municipality of Proença-a-Nova, from September 18 to 20. The event celebrates two traditional regional sausages: plangaio, made with rye flour, pork bones, garlic, and spices, and maranho, prepared with goat or sheep meat, rice, ham, and mint.

The three-day program includes musical performances by the Proença-a-Nova concertina school, artists Artur and Márcia, Sigàbanda, and the group Átoa. Culinary highlights include a showcooking session by chef Maria Caldeira de Sousa. The festival concludes with a walking tour and a traditional fireworks display, attracting thousands of visitors to celebrate local gastronomy and culture.
