Prof. Julije Meštrović to discuss child health challenges at Drvenik Veliki lecture
On Saturday, 8 August, a public lecture titled “Challenges to child health in the modern world” will be held at the Drvenik Veliki local committee building. The speaker, Prof. Dr. sc. Julije Meštrović – a leading Croatian pediatrician and founder of the pediatric intensive‑care unit at Split Hospital – will examine how contemporary lifestyles affect children, covering issues such as poor diet, sedentary habits, chronic lifestyle‑related diseases, mental‑health problems and the influence of digital technology. He will stress the importance of play, time in nature and community life for physical, emotional and cognitive development.
On Thursday, 6 August, the patronage counseling centre in Špišić Bukovica hosted a meeting to mark World Breastfeeding Week. The gathering brought together pregnant women and mothers to share experiences, receive professional information and support on breastfeeding, and celebrate the benefits of breast milk for nutrition, immunity, growth, development and mother‑child bonding. Organisers highlighted common breastfeeding challenges and the need for non‑judgmental professional assistance and community support.
