Profeco reports 87.4% of Mexican diesel stations meet price targets

Mexico’s Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) reported that 8,933 service stations, representing 87.4% of the country, are selling diesel for below 27 pesos per liter. This data is part of a national strategy to stabilize diesel prices.

Profeco head César Iván Escalante Ruiz noted that while most stations are complying, approximately 12.6% are still selling above the agreed price. Specifically, Profeco identified a BP station in Amozoc, Puebla, selling diesel at 29.99 pesos per liter with a profit margin of 3.01 pesos. Following inspections where the company could not justify the higher costs, Profeco has requested a working meeting with BP to ensure compliance with the voluntary stabilization agreement.

In other consumer updates, Profeco highlighted that Financiera para el Bienestar (Finabien) has led the market for 13 consecutive weeks in offering the best rates for remittances from the United States. Additionally, the agency provided data on basic food basket prices, noting that Bodega Aurrera Itzaes in Mérida offered the lowest prices, while Walmart Echegaray in Naucalpan recorded the highest.
