Profepa seizes endangered parrots in San Luis Potosí

The Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) seized two endangered parrots from a residence in the state of San Luis Potosí, Mexico. The seizure followed a citizen report regarding the illegal possession of two psittacines: a lilac-crowned parrot and a yellow-cheeked parrot.

Both species are listed under NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010 as being in danger of extinction. Under Mexican law, the extraction, commercialization, and possession of these birds are prohibited. The seized animals were transferred to a Wildlife Management Facility (PIMVS), an authorized space for the care and breeding of wildlife outside its natural habitat.

Profepa officials emphasized the importance of public participation in protecting biodiversity, using the campaign hashtag ‘#TuCasaNoEsSuCasa’ to discourage the private ownership of wild animals.
