Profepa seizes vessels for illegal landings in Alacranes Reef
Mexico's Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) has seized three vessels—Gypsea, Seamaster, and El abuelo—for unauthorized activities within the Alacranes Reef National Park. During inspections on September 25 and 26, authorities discovered that passengers had disembarked on Isla Pájaros, a restricted area.
While the vessels held permits to remain within the protected area, their authorization did not permit passengers to walk along the shoreline. This activity poses a potential threat to the habitat of the green sea turtle, a species protected under Mexican environmental regulations.
Profepa has opened administrative files for each vessel and placed them under precautionary seizure. The agency stated it will continue surveillance in the Alacranes Reef and the Los Bajos del Norte zone to prevent further damage to local ecosystems and wildlife.
