Professional cycling teams fast-track young sprinting talents
Professional cycling teams are accelerating the development of young sprinting talents. Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe has announced plans for 19-year-old Alessio Magagnotti to join the WorldTour in 2027. To support this transition, the team has recruited veteran sprinter Luka Mezgec as a mentor. Mezgec, who is retiring from active racing after eleven seasons with Jayco AlUla, will transition into a team management role to pass on his expertise in sprinting and lead-out tactics.
Similarly, Lotto-Intermarché has revised its long-term strategy for 18-year-old Italian rider Brandon Fedrizzi. Originally intended to spend two seasons with the development team before moving to the WorldTour, Fedrizzi will now join the professional squad immediately starting next season. The decision follows his strong performances in the international junior peloton, including a victory at the E3 Saxo Classic for juniors.
