MLS NEXT Pro to adopt summer-to-spring calendar in 2027

MLS NEXT Pro has announced a transition to a summer-to-spring competition calendar beginning in 2027. This overhaul aims to align the developmental league with Major League Soccer and other major global football leagues.

The transition will commence with a one-off Sprint Season in February 2027, running through May. This abbreviated campaign will feature 14 regular-season matches per club, followed by playoffs and the MLS NEXT Pro Cup in late May.

The first full summer-to-spring season will run from July 2027 to June 2028. This schedule includes a winter break, with the regular season consisting of 28 matches per club. The playoffs will conclude with the championship match in early June.
