Professional footballers face high bankruptcy rates after retirement

Data from organizations such as the XPro Foundation indicates that 60% of professional footballers face bankruptcy or severe financial distress within just five years of retirement.

Despite earning massive salaries through eight-digit contracts and global sponsorships, many athletes struggle to preserve their wealth. Experts point to a significant discrepancy between the short duration of an elite football career—which rarely exceeds 15 years—and the need to fund a lifetime of expenses.

Financial analysts suggest that lifestyle inflation, characterized by excessive spending on luxury goods, mansions, and unsustainable social circles, often consumes savings at an alarming rate.
