Professor Alan Roberts releases first book on bulk solids handling
Emeritus Professor Alan Roberts, a 96-year-old leader in the field of bulk solids, has released his first full book, titled "The Theory and Practice of Bulk Materials Handling," following 12 years of work.
With a career spanning over seven decades, Roberts has authored or co-authored more than 600 research papers, 13 book chapters, and six design manuals. His expertise covers the handling of granular or powdered materials used in industries such as mining, agriculture, and pharmaceuticals. The book aims to provide students with a foundation for solving problems related to the structural stability and processing of materials in storage bins and silos.
Born in Leichhardt, Sydney, Roberts studied engineering at the University of New South Wales and later taught at Wollongong University College. His contributions to mechanical engineering were recognized with an Order of Australia in 1992.
