Professor Albert Alos, educator and institution builder, dies in Nigeria
Professor Albert Alos, a Spanish-born educator who became a central figure in Nigerian higher education, has passed away in Lagos. Born in Barcelona in 1939, Alos spent nearly six decades in Nigeria, eventually becoming a recognized Nigerian citizen.
Originally trained as an electrical engineer with a doctorate from the University of Bilbao, Alos held significant academic and leadership roles at several major institutions, including the University of Lagos, the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), and the University of Ibadan. He was instrumental in developing engineering departments and aligning programs with national accreditation standards.
Beyond engineering, Alos is credited as an institution builder who helped establish the foundations of the Lagos Business School and Pan Atlantic University, leaving a lasting impact on management education and the development of business leaders in Nigeria.
