Professor Bahadır Erdem criticized for misattributing poem
Bahadır Erdem, an academic and member of the YENİ Parti, faced criticism after incorrectly attributing a poem to the poet Can Yücel on the social media platform X. Erdem shared verses beginning with ‘Yüz diye ısrar etme doksan da olur’ (Do not insist on a hundred, ninety is fine), claiming they were a favorite work of Can Yücel.
Journalist Ahmet Hakan addressed the error in a column for Hürriyet, noting that the text has no connection to Can Yücel and criticizing the professor for the mistake. The verses, which are often attributed to Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi, were presented by Erdem as part of an analysis regarding the divide between different segments of the Turkish electorate.
