Professor Dong-Wook Kim receives KY Cha Academic Award
Professor Dong-Wook Kim of Yonsei University College of Medicine has received the KY Cha Academic Award at the Korean Society for Stem Cell Research annual conference. The award recognizes researchers who have made significant contributions to the fields of stem cell and regenerative medicine.
Professor Kim was honored for his extensive research using human embryonic stem cells (hESC) and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) to study disease mechanisms and develop cell therapies. Notably, his research team led the first clinical trial in Asia, and only the second in the world, to evaluate the safety and efficacy of hESC-based cell therapy for Parkinson's disease.
The award was established in 2025 to honor the contributions of Kyung-Ryul Cha, Director of the Global Research Institute at CHA Bio Group, and to support the development of next-generation researchers in the field.
