Professor Gian Paolo Guaraldi passes away

The University of Modena and Reggio Emilia has announced the passing of Professor Gian Paolo Guaraldi, an Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry and a prominent figure in the institution's medical and psychiatric research history.

Born in 1935, Guaraldi graduated from the University of Bologna in experimental psychology before moving to Modena in 1960. He held professorships in Child Neuropsychiatry and Psychiatry, and was instrumental in establishing the PhD in Human Psychobiology and the degree course in Psychiatric Rehabilitation Techniques.

A prolific researcher, he authored over 500 scientific publications and served as the president of the “Adolescence” section of the Italian Psychiatric Society for more than twenty years. His clinical approach emphasized the integration of scientific knowledge with psychology, sociology, and ethics, focusing on the human condition and social solidarity.
