Professor Jaleia leads educational and social support in Luabo
Atanásio Luciano, a primary school teacher known as Professor Jaleia, is leading community initiatives in the Luabo district of Zambézia province to support vulnerable populations. His work focuses on assisting children, the elderly, and low-income families while advocating for the importance of education.
In a region heavily dependent on subsistence agriculture and fishing, economic hardships often prevent families from purchasing school uniforms and supplies, leading to high dropout rates. Professor Jaleia specifically works to combat premature marriages and protect the rights of girls to ensure they remain in the school system.
To address these challenges, recent efforts have included the mobilization of private sector support. Vivo Energy has provided 400 school kits to underprivileged children in Luabo to help reduce the financial burden on families and encourage academic continuity.
