Professor José Manuel Pureza warns of imminent global war

During his final lecture at the University of Coimbra after 34 years of teaching, international relations professor José Manuel Pureza warned of the imminent threat of a third world war. Speaking at the Faculty of Economics, Pureza stated that the pieces of a global conflict are rapidly coming together, potentially leading to the destruction of humanity.

Pureza highlighted the total ruin of international law as a primary driver of this instability. He specifically noted that, for the first time since the 1970s, there are no legally binding limits on the strategic nuclear arsenals of the United States and the Russian Federation, both of which continue to modernize their capabilities. He expressed concern that the general awareness of the risk of nuclear escalation has not been sufficient to halt the current trend toward militarization.
