Professor Kaloyan Davidov named Doctor of the Year 2026

Professor Kaloyan Davidov, head of the Urology Clinic at SofiaMed, has been awarded the gold prize for ‘Doctor of the Year 2026’ by the Bulgarian Medical Union. The award was presented during a ceremony at the National Historical Museum marking the 125th anniversary of the professional organization.

In discussions regarding the award, Professor Davidov emphasized his commitment to his patients and the training of young specialists, stating that a physician with significant clinical responsibilities lacks the time for political involvement. He noted, ‘I know how to operate,’ rather than how to engage in politics.

Davidov, a pioneer in laser and robotic urology in Bulgaria, also addressed his decision to remain in the country despite opportunities to work abroad. He cited his family, social ties, and the professional advancements made by his generation of urologists—which allow Bulgarian patients to access modern treatments locally—as his primary reasons for staying.
