Professor Kim Un publishes book on Complex Regional Pain Syndrome

Professor Kim Un, an orthopedic specialist at Inje University Sanggye Paik Hospital, has released a new book titled ‘The Miracle of Ordinary Daily Life.’ The work serves as a clinical essay documenting his experiences treating patients with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) over a period of approximately three years, including his time at a military hospital.

CRPS is a chronic condition characterized by intense pain, sensory abnormalities, swelling, and loss of motor function following trauma, fractures, or nerve damage. Because the disease is difficult to diagnose and recovery varies significantly between individuals, patients and their families often face high levels of psychological distress and uncertainty.

The book is organized into five sections: the concepts and diagnostic challenges of CRPS, the initiation of hospitalization and rehabilitation, the importance of patient education during fluctuating recovery periods, the decision-making process between surgical and conservative treatments, and the final stage of returning to social life. Professor Kim aims to provide a practical guide for patients and caregivers to better understand their condition and the treatment process, emphasizing the necessity of communication and trust between medical professionals and patients.
