Professor Lee Jung-gu donates 100 million KRW for South Sudan medical aid
Lee Jung-gu, an emeritus professor at Dankook University and a pioneer in treating dizziness disorders, has donated 100 million KRW to support medical aid in South Sudan and the cultivation of future medical professionals. This marks his second major donation to the university, following a previous 100 million KRW contribution from his pension.
The funds will be used to honor the legacy of the late Father Lee Tae-seok, who dedicated his life to medical service in South Sudan. In alignment with this mission, Dankook University plans to dispatch a medical volunteer team consisting of faculty and staff from its medical school and hospital to South Sudan in 2027 to mark the university's 80th anniversary.
Professor Lee, often referred to as the ‘Schweitzer of Anseo-dong,’ emphasized the responsibility of medical professionals to share their skills and expertise with those in need. He has a long history of international medical service, having previously visited regions such as Vanuatu, the Solomon Islands, and Mexico alongside his wife.
