Professor Manoella Treis contests IFRS appointment denial

Manoella Treis, an autistic professor and researcher, is contesting a decision by the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio Grande do Sul (IFRS) that prevented her from assuming her position.

Despite being approved in a federal civil service exam and having previously worked at the Veranópolis campus for two years, a medical board denied her appointment citing “geographic incompatibility.” The board claimed her health conditions and the need for specific medical treatments were incompatible with the local infrastructure in Veranópolis. Treis has turned to the judiciary to challenge the decision, arguing that the institution failed to consider reasonable accommodations and that the restriction violates constitutional guarantees of equality and non-discrimination.
