Professor Tomasz Rogula, bariatric surgery expert, dies at 58

Professor Tomasz Rogula, a world-renowned expert in bariatric and metabolic surgery, has passed away at the age of 58. He died on August 22 in Cleveland, United States.

Professor Rogula held significant academic and clinical roles across several countries. He was affiliated with Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce, Jagiellonian University, and Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. His international career included consultancy roles at Hamad Medical Corporation in Qatar and Mediclinic in Abu Dhabi. In Poland, he served as the clinical director and head of the Obesity Treatment Clinic at the Hospital on Klinach in Krakow.

A pioneer in minimally invasive techniques, Rogula implemented innovative procedures such as single-incision laparoscopic bariatric surgery and robotic-assisted gastric bypass operations at the Cleveland Clinic. He was also a dedicated educator, establishing the Bariatric Clinical Program for medical students and founding the International Bariatric Club to connect global experts in the field.
