Progreso mayor Erik Rihani González confronts vehicle impoundment deadline and diesel shortage

The municipal government of Progreso, Yucatán, issued a 60‑day deadline for owners of more than 3,000 vehicles stored in the city’s impound lot to prove ownership and pay fines, towing fees and storage charges. The measure, formalized in agreement DSPT/01/2026 and signed by Mayor Erik Rihani González, states that unclaimed vehicles will be transferred to municipal assets and auctioned, and the same rules will apply to any future vehicles entering the lot.

Separately, residents have accused the same administration of refusing to provide diesel fuel for municipal transport units that serve people with health or other urgent travel needs. Complainants claim diesel is available but withheld by officials who control its release, prompting calls for the mayor to investigate and clarify the situation.
