Progreso officials suspended after street fight

The Progreso City Council has suspended two municipal employees without pay following a violent street fight caught on video. The incident involved David Escalante, the director of Prolimpia, and an employee from the Municipal System of Potable Water and Sewerage (SMAPAP).

According to reports, the altercation began when Escalante confronted a citizen, alleging the individual had struck his son. The SMAPAP employee reportedly intervened in the fight. The citizen involved claimed he acted in self-defense, alleging that Escalante’s son had previously gone to his home and threatened him with a firearm.

The City Council has initiated an administrative procedure to investigate the facts and determine if administrative faults occurred. The suspensions serve as a preventive measure while the investigation proceeds to establish legal responsibilities.
