Progress and Socialism Party nears decision on government participation
The Progress and Socialism Party is nearing a decision regarding its participation in the upcoming government being formed by designated Prime Minister Fatima Zahra Mansouri. During an extraordinary session of the party's central committee, Secretary-General Mohamed Nabil Benabdallah reported a significant convergence of views following several meetings with Mansouri.
Benabdallah noted a “deep alignment” on several key priorities, including the strengthening of democracy, civil liberties, the activation of constitutional institutions, and the promotion of equality. Economic and social discussions also covered inflation, purchasing power, employment, social protection, and reforms in health, education, and pensions.
Despite the reported alignment, Benabdallah emphasized that joining the government remains a difficult choice that requires addressing questions regarding the specific political program and the party's role. He clarified that the option to remain in the opposition is still under discussion. The central committee has delegated the political bureau to continue managing these consultations to determine the party's final political position.
