Progresívne Slovensko seeks removal of Jaroslav Klátik from Judicial Council

The opposition movement Progresívne Slovensko (PS) has announced plans to submit a motion to the National Council of the Slovak Republic to remove Jaroslav Klátik from the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic. The move follows allegations of plagiarism regarding a scientific paper co-authored by Klátik and Jozef Michalko, which reportedly contained entire pages copied from a student's thesis and contained inaccuracies in the bibliography.

While Klátik has resigned from his academic positions at Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica, he has denied the allegations and maintains that he has no reason to step down from the Judicial Council. However, the university's rector, Vladimír Hiadlovský, has called for the dismissal of both academics from all university functions and has referred the matter to the ethical commission.

PS lawmakers, including Zuzana Števulová and Lucia Plaváková, argue that the allegations disqualify Klátik from holding a position in the highest body of judicial legitimacy, citing a failure to meet the necessary moral and ethical criteria for a member of the Judicial Council or a candidate for a judgeship.
