Project FLOW expands water purification to Region Six schools in Guyana

Project FLOW has expanded into Guyana’s Region Six, providing water purification systems to 19 secondary schools and TVET institutions. The expansion benefits approximately 8,438 students and 1,164 teachers by offering access to chilled, potable water.

The initiative is a partnership between the Ministry of Education, Recover Guyana, and the Greater Guyana Initiative, which is a US$100 million development commitment from ExxonMobil. The project aims to provide purified drinking water to more than 58,000 students across 141 public secondary schools, 10 TVET centres, and four special education facilities by the end of 2029.

Minister of Education Sonia Parag noted that the project is particularly vital due to rising temperatures associated with El Niño, helping students stay hydrated while reducing reliance on plastic bottled water. Alistair Routledge, head of ExxonMobil Guyana Limited, stated that the project demonstrates how the country’s natural resources can support sustainable, diverse development.
