Venezuela receives medical aid and vaccines following major earthquakes

International organizations and the United States are providing significant humanitarian aid to Venezuela to support health recovery following two major earthquakes in June that killed at least 6,509 people.

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) has managed the arrival of 2.9 million vaccine doses, including pentavalent, toxoid, rabies, measles, rubella, mumps, yellow fever, and tuberculosis vaccines. PAHO has also supplied materials to treat millions of liters of water and provided medical assistance to over 226,000 people in hospitals, with more than 44,000 consultations conducted by Emergency Medical Teams. Technical cooperation efforts include modernizing epidemiological surveillance, strengthening health information systems, and reactivating the public health laboratory in La Guaira.

Additionally, the U.S.-based organization Project HOPE, with support from the U.S. Department of State, has invested over $200,000 to rehabilitate health centers in Venezuela. This includes the delivery of essential medical equipment to the Salud Chacao emergency facility to bolster primary care capacity.
