Project Management research highlights sustainability execution gaps and professional certification trends

New research from the Project Management Institute (PMI) and Green Project Management highlights a significant gap between corporate sustainability ambitions and actual execution. A study of nearly 1,600 professionals across 35 countries found that while 85% of sustainability executives believe their organizations will meet their goals, only 43% of Project Management Office leaders share that confidence, and just 20% of implementation professionals feel extremely confident in their ability to deliver.

This disconnect occurs as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) face delays, with only 35% of targets currently on track. In Africa, where projects are vital for infrastructure, energy, and healthcare, the report suggests that sustainability is not yet fully integrated into daily operations, despite 79% of respondents viewing it as essential for long-term success.

Separately, professional development trends in Kenya indicate that obtaining a Project Management Professional (PMP) certificate is increasingly linked to career advancement. The certification is noted for boosting earning potential, providing transferable skills across sectors, and enhancing professional credibility in a competitive job market.
