Prokopis Pavlopoulos honors the legacy of Konstantinos Tsoukalas

Former President of the Hellenic Republic, Prokopis Pavlopoulos, delivered a tribute to the late sociologist and intellectual Konstantinos Tsoukalas during the 21st Nafplio International Meetings. Organized by the Center for International Law and Diplomacy, the speech, titled ‘A Journey on the Roads of Freedom’, examined Tsoukalas’s multifaceted contributions to Greek public and intellectual life.

Pavlopoulos highlighted Tsoukalas’s diverse academic background, which integrated legal science with philosophy, sociology, and history. Following studies at the University of Athens, Tsoukalas held academic positions at institutions in Heidelberg, Munich, Paris, and Yale before returning to teach at the University of Athens. He also held significant administrative roles at the National Foundation for Social Research and the Foundation of Hellenic Culture.

The tribute also noted Tsoukalas’s anti-dictatorial activities during the 1967–1974 period and his election as a regular member of the Academy of Athens in 2025.
