Prokuplje NPS Local Committee Leaves Party, Joins Democratic Party
On 29 July, the city committee of the Narodni pokret Srbije (NPS) in Prokuplje voted unanimously to quit the party. The split was driven by disagreement with the NPS leadership’s decision to run its own electoral list instead of giving unconditional support to a student‑movement list. The committee announced it would join the Democratic Party (DS) without any conditions, signing the statement by local NPS officials Jelena Stojanović and Goran Mrdaković.
The move reflects growing tensions within Serbia’s opposition ahead of upcoming elections, with similar dissent reported in the NPS branches of Blace and Žitorađa. Party leader Miroslav Aleksić has not yet responded, while opposition activists have called on other local committees to back the student list. Analysts say the defections could reshape the balance of forces among opposition parties if the pattern spreads.
