ProlactarRD conducts breastfeeding awareness campaign in Dominican Republic
ProlactarRD has completed an extensive national and international campaign to mark World Breastfeeding Week 2026, impacting more than 1,800 people through 70 different activities. Led by president María Aurelina Estévez Abreu, the initiative included community talks, workshops in health and early childhood centers, and media interventions across ten provinces in the Dominican Republic.
The organization provided guidance to public servants in institutions such as the Senate of the Republic and the Superintendency of Health and Labor Risks (SISALRIL) to promote the rights of working women to breastfeeding and milk expression. Additionally, medical residents received training, and activities were held in various commercial plazas and hospitals.
A major institutional milestone of the campaign was the formal submission of a proposal to the National Council for Children and Adolescents (CONANI). The proposal seeks to amend Law 136-03 of the Code of Children and Adolescents to strengthen parental authority and strictly regulate the marketing of breast milk substitutes.
