Prologis and ALP partner to develop automated warehouses in Japan
Prologis and Taiwan-based ALP Logistics Property (ALP) have entered a partnership to develop Japan’s first large-scale multi-tenant automated warehouse facilities. The collaboration aims to address labor shortages and rising costs in the logistics sector by providing shared automated infrastructure that multiple companies can utilize, rather than requiring individual firms to make massive private investments in specialized equipment.
The first project, branded under the ‘OMEGA’ service model, will be located in Kyotanabe, Kyoto Prefecture. Construction is scheduled to begin in late 2027, with completion expected in 2030. The facility will feature a high-density pallet-type automated warehouse at its core, utilizing Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) to automate storage, entry, exit, and transport processes. Total investment for this initiative is estimated between 80 billion and 100 billion yen.
Additionally, Prologis announced plans for ‘Prologis Park Sakai’ in Osaka Prefecture. Construction for this facility is set to begin in June 2027, with completion in February 2029. The Sakai site will be a versatile facility capable of supporting both build-to-suit and multi-tenant models, featuring high ceilings, solar power installations, and disaster prevention systems.
