Promeza program originated in Quintana Roo in 2021
The Archaeological Zone Improvement Program, known as Promeza, originated in Chetumal, Quintana Roo, during a working tour by former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador in May 2021.
According to Margarito Molina, director of the INAH Center in Quintana Roo, the initiative was conceived to run parallel to the construction of the Tren Maya. The goal was to utilize the investment in transportation to also intervene in and strengthen heritage sites along the route. The program was officially announced in June 2021 to improve archaeological zones located within the Maya Train's path.
