Promitheas Patras license revoked by Greek sports committee
The Committee of Professional Sports (EEA) has revoked the certificate of the Greek basketball club Promitheas Patras for the 2025-2026 season and imposed significant fines. The decision follows an investigation into the management of the club following the 2020 transfer of shares by Evangelos Liolios.
The EEA concluded that despite the official transfer of shares, Liolios continued to exercise substantial administrative influence and management over the club. The committee described him as the “real boss” of the team, citing evidence from communications with coach Ilias Papatheodorou. These messages demonstrated Liolios’s involvement in management, representation, and player-related decisions.
As a result of these findings, the EEA has imposed a 50,000 euro fine on Promitheas Patras and a 10,000 euro fine on Evangelos Liolios. The decision has been forwarded to the Hellenic Basketball Federation (EOK) and the Hellenic Sports Dispute Resolution Chamber (ESAKE) for further legal action.
